Muskoka
Come play in Ontario's beloved "cottage country" filled with sparkling lakes, dense forests and the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. Base yourself at one of Muskoka's famed lakeside resorts and tee up on the area's many golf courses or experience the blissful serenity of sitting on a dock getting lost in the sunset. Enjoy a cruise on the oldest coal-operating steamship in North America as it weaves around pine clad islands. Take part in a wolf howl in Algonquin Provincial Park for a memorable "conversation" with the local inhabitants. In winter, snowmobile, ice fish or cross-country ski in a snowy playground. Plan your next vacation in this bit of heaven in Ontario.

Must See
In "cottage country" the attractions go beyond its hundreds of lakes. Tee up on a challenging golf course. Combine a cruise with exploring history or a marine railway ride. And catch remarkable stage productions at local summer theatres.
  1. Cruise past palatial estates lining the Muskoka Lakes on the Lady Muskoka or the R.M.S. Segwun - an elegantly restored 19th-century steam ship.
  2. Explore Georgian Bay's history, geology and wildlife aboard the spacious Island Queen, Canada's largest sightseeing cruise ship.
  3. Discover the beauty of Georgian Bay Islands National Park - home to wildlife, waterfowl, woodlands and plenty of gamefish in the surrounding waters near Honey Harbour.
  4. Do some nature sketching, photography, even sculpting as you experience "Arts in the Wild" at nearby Algonquin Provincial Park - Ontario's oldest park.
  5. Return to life in the late 1800s at Muskoka Heritage Place Steam Train and Pioneer Village in Huntsville where you can ride the Portage Flyer - a restored 1928 steamer.
  6. Taste everything cranberry from fudge and jam to vinegar at the berry's own mid-October Cranberry festival in Bala - the "Cranberry Capital of Ontario." Then drop by Johnston's Cranberry Marsh to witness the fall harvest first-hand.
  7. Visit the Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site in Gravenhurst, honouring the doctor's innovative contributions to medicine and his heroic healing work in China.
  8. Be truly impressed as you watch the Big Chute Marine Railway carry large boats over land to continue their journey along the Trent-Severn Waterway.
  9. Feel festive in Bracebridge, at the Santa's Village and Sportsland Amusement Park - 'Santa's summer home', guaranteed to bring out the kid in everyone.
  10. Examine artifacts and clothing of early settlers at the Muskoka Lakes Museum - an 1875 log house that salutes Port Carling's boat building heritage.
