St. Lawrence Seaway
Cruise the famous 1000 Islands, scattered like jewels upon shimmering waters so beautiful that Aboriginals named it the "Garden of the Great Spirit." In this area abundant with history you can experience military colour and pageantry with precision regimental drills at an authentic 19th-century fort or slip into the routine of 1860s daily life in a faithfully recreated village. Visit charming towns and cities that date back to the days of the fur traders and United Empire Loyalists. Enjoy exceptional summer theatre in a rustic, turn-of-the-20th-century playhouse appealingly set on the waterfront. Plan a St. Lawrence Seaway vacation for adventure and enjoyment on land or water.

Must See
From military strongholds and yesteryear villages to glorious waters and emerald islands, the St. Lawrence Seaway is a wonderful mix of inspiring history, scenery and ways to have fun.
  1. Chat with the village blacksmith, baker or candlestick maker as costumed "residents" guide you through pre-1867 daily life activities at Upper Canada Village near Morrisburg.
  2. Join a Gananoque Boat Lines or Rockport Boat Line tour and visit some of 1000 Islands out of the ordinary attractions, including romantic castles and the world's smallest international bridge on Zavikon Island.
  3. Get a bird's eye view of countless species from the tower at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary near Morrisburg - an excellent spot to observe spring and fall migrations.
  4. Take in the beauty and scenery of the St. Lawrence aboard a replica steamship ... experience the tradition and history with St. Lawrence Cruise Lines.
  5. Watch faithfully recreated battles and precision bayonet drills as Kingston's Fort Henry brings history to life with regiments marching to fifes and drums amidst the roar of rifles and cannons.
  6. Explore exquisite St. Lawrence Islands National Park where more than 25 islands housing an unusually large variety of plant and animal life dot the St. Lawrence River.
  7. Visit Land O' Lakes, home to thousands of pristine water bodies allowing limitless canoeing, kayaking and boating options including Bon Echo Provincial Park and Frontenac Provincial Park.
  8. Relax and catch a live performance at the Thousand Islands Playhouse - a lovely historic venue on Gananoque's waterfront.
  9. Take a guided tour of Fort Wellington - an original British fort built near Prescott between 1838-39, complete with earthen ramparts.
  10. Climb to a lofty perch atop the Thousand Islands Skydeck on Hill Island for a panoramic view of boats on the St. Lawrence from 120 metres (400 ft.) above the river.
  11. Don a kilt and bagpipes for the summer Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville. Held since 1948, this is one of the largest Celtic events in North America.
