Release the kid inside! Splash in a waterfall, climb a giant tower, howl with the wolves and cannonball off the dock. Give into temptation and enjoy the homemade sweet treats (this is the land of the famous Butter Tart Tour), sample cottage country brews and walk in the clouds. Remember how fun it was to be young and carefree!

DAY ONE
Cruising
Tour the Trent-Severn Waterway in scenic Kawarthas Northumberland with Lift Lock and the River Boat Cruises in Peterborough. Witness the century old lock system in action as you are raised up 65 feet at the world’s highest hydraulic life lock.
Lunch
The Pin serves lunch, loose-leaf tea and divine desserts, in a magical Victorian home in downtown Peterborough.
Pick up award-winning butter tarts for the road at the Whistle Stop Café and stop for decadent beverages at Sweet Bottoms Coffee in Fenelon Falls. Take a walk along the Minden White Water Rapids along the Gull River in White Water Preserve Harrington Park.
Where to stay
Settle in at Heather Lodge, a casual upscale four-season resort on the shore of Twelve Mile Lake. Dine outdoors on the patio deck overlooking the lake.

DAY TWO
Morning fun
Get the perfect picture at Buttermilk Falls just north of Carnarvon and check out Hawk Lake Log Chute, a hand-made trough to transport logs over river rocks and rapids to the sawmill, on your way up to the Dorset Tower. Climb up over 100 metres to the observation deck at the top for an awesome panoramic view of the forest and Lake of Bays below. Hike the Dorset trail through the forest behind the Dorset Heritage Museum.
Treat your sweet tooth at Henrietta’s Pine Bakery in Dwight; they offer a heavenly selection of baked goods including their signature, ‘Muskoka Cloud’.
Lunch and lounge
On your way back to the resort, stop at Boshkung Brewing for a late lunch at Rhubarb Restaurant, and to pick up a few cold ones for later. Their cream ale and kellerbier are both gold medal winners.
Spend the rest of your afternoon on the water; take out a canoe and paddle 12 Mile Lake or simply lounge on the dock and listen to the loons.

DAY THREE
Adventure
Set out early for the Haliburton Forest Wildlife Reserve for your (prebooked) Canopy Tour. This fully-guided, four-hour adventure includes a nature ride, a voyageur-canoe paddle, a visit to the Wolf Centre to watch wolves (and a litter of pups) in their natural habitat, as well as the experience of walking in the clouds on a forest canopy boardwalk, that winds through the treetops.
A tour of the organic vegetable and herb gardens, and heritage breed ponies and chickens at Abbey Gardens will have you humming ‘Old MacDonald Had A Farm’. Enjoy lunch on the restaurant patio, hike the forest trails and top off your getaway with a toast at Haliburton Highlands Brewing.
